Quick Rave – Liz Earle Hair Products – Full Review coming soon!

haircare

Quick intro:

I’ve been using the Botanical Shine Shampoo (for all hair types) and the Botanical Shine Conditioner for oily hair for a little while now. I don’t have oily hair but I made a large order and got a full size of the product free of charge and as it’s so yummy, am working on using it all up before purchasing the one for either normal or damaged hair as I use a lot of heat on mine.

The shampoo is great as instead of using SLS and SLES, which are foaming agents present in most well-known hair cleansing products, they use a cleansing agent that comes from coconut yay! Many scalps are sensitive to SLS and SLES and this coconut and plant-based shampoo is suitable for all scalp and hair types. It’s even safe for coloured hair due to the lack of SLS and SLES as these can be harsh and are known to fade colour.

Initial Thoughts:

I am already a HUGE fan of Liz Earle and as you all know by now, the majority of the skincare products I use are from the brand so I was super excited to try the hair care goodies.

The shampoo is unlike the usual ‘better for you’ kind of shampoos as it lathers beautifully, smells deliciously natural and good for you BUT actually effectively cleans your hair. It. Is. Amazing.

The conditioner, despite not necessarily for my hair type as I got it free with a rather large order is also amazing! It smells yummy, leaves my hair super soft and shiny and doesn’t weigh it down either. Top Marks Liz Earle, as usual!

Clarisonic Mia – FULL REVIEW

What is it?

A deep cleansing skin brush that cleans deep into pores. I have the lavender one, however, other colours are available.

Initial thoughts?

I use this as instructed by the booklet that comes with it, it does come with the clarisonic cleanser but I prefer to stick to my lovely Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish as i know that this works for my skin.

I first remove my make up with a combination of a wipe and eye make up remover, or Bioderma and some cotton pads. This is IMPORTANT – the clarisonic mia (and the other clarisonics) are for CLEANSING the skin and are not designed for removing make up. Other than that, I’m sure no one wants a discoloured brush head if they can help it!

After removing my make up I then apply my cleanser to my face evenly, wet the brush head, turn it on and move the clarison mia over my skin gently in circular motions. It will turn itself off after 1 minute.

You are advised to use the brush for 20 seconds on your nose and chin area, 20 seconds on your forehead and 10 seconds on each cheek.

The Clarisonic  Mia is hassle free and easy to use and I love the fact it’s travel friendly because its small and the charger is small too – no big cradle like its bigger counterparts!

The Results?

I have been using this for about 10 weeks now and I have to say I have seen a huge improvement in how my skin looks and feels. I first used the ‘sensitive’ brush head that comes with the Clarisonic Mia when you purchase it and this seemed to work for my skin, however, I did some research and others have found that switching to the ‘normal’ brush head have resulted in even bigger improvements to the skin.

After discovering this, as my skin isn’t super sensitive I bought the ‘normal’ brush head about 3 weeks in and boy did it make a difference!

Having said this, I thoroughly recommend that if you do purchase this item as I did, you use the ‘sensitive’ brush head for a couple of weeks first as your skin may well respond very well to it. Other than this, the ‘sensitive’ brush head is gentler and is ideal for getting your skin adapted to being cleansed in this way.

My skin is clearer, brighter and softer and just generally looks far more healthy. I think this product is perfect for anyone  who loves a deep cleanse and wants to look after their skin or for those of us with more problematic skin as this product really does cleanse beautifully without irritation or redness.

Worth the Money?

I’m not going to lie to you, this is not cheap – it costs £120 … BUT … If your skin is something that makes you feel insecure because you have problems with it then I firmly believe it’s worth every penny.

Even if your skin is ok but you constantly wear a lot of make up and need a thorough clean or you like to really take care of your skin this is ideal.

If you can’t afford it why not chuck it on your birthday/christmas list? That’s what I did 😉

The Body Shop – Earth Lovers Shower Gel

What are they?

Deliciously fresh and fruity shower gels that are completely soap, sulphate, paraben and colourant free. The bottle is also 100% recycled!

Worth the Money?

These retail for £5 each for 250ml and come in 7 variations, including an unscented one – ideal for sensitive skin.

Their bestseller is ‘watermelon and eucalyptus’ and I can see why, it smells divine!

All of these lather very well for something with no sulphates (if you use sulphate free shampoo you will know what I mean) or soap and last me about 5 weeks which for me is very good indeed!

They don’t smell overpowering but do enough to fill the room a little and leave the scent lingering on the skin for a couple of hours afterwards.

I had never been a huge ‘shower gel person’ until I discovered these and now they’re my favourite, they’re earth friendly, reasonably priced, last ages and smell gorgeous while leaving me feeling delightfully clean and fresh. Even the unscented one lathers nicely, cleans well and feels lovely on my skin.

I’m very impressed with these and it is especially impressive that an unscented variation is available.

All in all? Worth every penny!

These are available from The Body Shop stores or online :

When in PARIS – Bioderma H2O

QUICK INTRO

As you may have guessed if you look at my recent tweets I am in Paris for work. I do apologise for not blogging sooner, I am no good at french and have only just managed to get the wifi to work! Anyway ….

Many of you will already know that Bioderma is a french brand known for its kindness to skin, however it still maintains its effectiveness when removing make up. As its widely available here, I have picked some up and thought I would give you an overview of this product.

What does it do?

Bioderma H20 is formulated for sensitive, normal to dry skin, the clear solution cleanses the face and eyes, gently but effectively removing make up, it even removes water-resistant make-up. The micelles contained in its formula effectively micro-emulsify impurities while maintaining the skin’s balance as it is pH neutral and contains no soap. It also contains soothing and decongesting active ingredients that prevent that raw, irritable feeling that can sometimes be associated with removing make up and cleansing the skin thoroughly.

Worth the Money?

This has to be one of the best all in one cleansers I have tried.

Now, you all know I am besotted with Liz Earle products and continue to use them religiously along with my Clarisonic (on which there will be a full review shortly) however, this is my first choice to initially take my make up off at the end of the day.

I soak a couple of cotton pads with the solution and press the pads into my skin and then swipe away the make up.

Some people have said it takes them ages to get their eye make up off or they use a load of cotton pads etc etc. This should not really be the case, I use on average, three cotton pads for my entire face including eye make up.

As you all know, I wear a reasonably natural look but it is still a full face of make up and generally two coats of mascara. The trick is to do the eye make up bit properly – wiping away at your eye with this stuff will do it but it will cost you a pile off cotton pads as some have said.

The easiest, fastest way to do it in a couple of wipes is to hold the pad over your eye for a few seconds FIRST, this enables the solution to start to dissolve the make up, thus removing it when you wipe away – simples!

I have never had any issues with this product, its effective, it doesn’t dry out my skin, my skin doesn’t feel irritated afterwards, it doesn’t smell weird and best off all – it saves me buying seperate eye make up remover yay!

Without a doubt it is a must have, especially if you have sensitive skin and I can tell you from experience that most make up artists will have it in their kit – it’s that good!

The prices vary and are generally in euros as it is a french brand but a 500ml bottle lasts me nearly 3 months.

The only downside to this product is that outside of France, it can be less simple to get hold of, however, the internet is great, just avoid Ebay where possible as often you will pay more than normal. I have listed some alteratives below.

Where to buy in the UK:

As I mentioned above, here are some handy websites that those of you in the UK can access this wonderful product from, I promise it’s worth every penny! For those of you outside the UK, the internet is a wonderful thing and many sites stock this product, just search it and you will find something 🙂
