Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

Image

What is it?

A foundation setting powder that mattifies the face and helps prevent oiliness. Claims ‘up to 5 hours natural shine controlwith natural minerals’ and ‘helps minimise the appearance of pores’.

The Review

I discovered this product through a youtube beauty guru and had been looking for something to replace my MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural –  not that I don’t like it anymore – just that it is expensive, even though it lasts a long time.

I purchased the colour 005 Sandy Beige and when I tried it over my usual foundation routine for the very first time, I was thoroughly impressed. Although it didn’t add any extra coverage (incidentally this is something I don’t really need) it glided on beautifully.

It has a very light, smooth texture on the skin and such a natural finish that although it is mattifying (and it does this very well) I feel it’s barely detectable on your skin, lacking that sometimes common ‘cakey’ look.

Although I was impressed with the initial application, the real test would be how well, and how long it controls the oil for. To my surprise, as the packaging suggests, it did last the full 5 hours on me and even after that I didn’t feel it had worn off so badly that I HAD to reapply. I suspect on very oily skin it could last a little less, perhaps around 3 or 4 hours but I am so impressed with this product it has actually completely replaced my MAC powder.

I’ve been using it for a couple of months now and much prefer the more natural finish. The only issue I can see anyone having with this is the colour selection.

There are only 7 shades and they are all for light skin tones apart from the ‘Transparent’.

I know that sometimes transparent/translucent shades can look ashy and unnatural on darker skin tones and as I’m not of that colouring I can’t comment on whether this shade from Rimmel does have this issue or not.

Worth The Money?

Absolutely, for £3.99, a natural finish and the product delivering on all of it’s claims, this has replaced my MAC powder. If you can get great products for less that work just as well then why not?

This product is readily available on the highstreet in Boots and Superdrug, larger chain supermarkets with a make up section and online:

Laura Mercier Undercover Pot

What is it?

A concealer, corrector and setting powder all in one small pot.
The Review
Flip the top and you have the infamous ‘Secret Camouflage’ concealer and a thinner almost sticky peachy corrector for the eye area. Close this and twist the top off and you have a translucent powder underneath.
I have nothing bad to say about this product. It has a great coverage concealer for blemishes/discolouration/the usual imperfections that recquire a good concealer. The concealer covers everything really well and feels similar to MAC’s studio fix concealer pot. If you need to build it up you can, it doesn’t, however, look cakey and it blends really well.
The corrector is a pale peachy/salmon colour, ideal for covering dark circles. Just like the regular concealer in this pot, it covers brilliantly without looking cakey.
The powder is very finely milled and kept my oily t-zone at bay for a good 6 hours before I felt the need to top up a little.
This product has everything in one little pot! I travel a lot for work so this is ideal for me. Even if you don’t travel it’s a great size for your make-up bag/handbag and with 3 items in one it will save you space 🙂
Worth the Money?
Laura Mercier is obviously a high end brand loved by many of the beauty community and unfortunately the price does match the hype. This pot will set you back £29.00 but then you are getting 3 different products so at roughly £10 each for products that really work and are in a compact little kit I think it’s worth it.
The Undercover Pot by Laura Mercier can be found at most department stores, the official website and Space NK where I purchased mine. Feel free to shop around on places like Amazon for a better price but here’s the link for the product and Space NK:

MAC Hey, Sailor! Crew Highlighting Powder Update

Just a little update:

So, if you’ve seen my post about the MAC Hey, Sailor collection haul then you will be aware that the highlighting powder called ‘Crew’ was something that I purchased.

Now, at first glance I had written that I thought the off white colour was the main colour and the the stripes in peach, pink and lilac were an overspray.

This is NOT the case at all! As you can see in the image, it is in fact the off white colour that was an overspray!

Now, I like this product, I continue to use it but it is NOT appropriate as a highlighting powder.

Its a gorgeous soft pink with a hint of peach (the purple doesn’t have much of an effect on the overall colour as the pink is dominant) and is ideal as a blusher, I have no idea why MAC has categorised this as a highlighting powder but nonetheless its lovely as a blusher, especially if you’re quite fair skinned.

Estee Lauder Haul & Initial Thoughts

I went shopping with my mum at the weekend and set out to find a much lighter foundation…

I let the lovely Estee Lauder lady do my make up (my mum had hers done too) and I came away with this lovely lot … oopsie!

Initial thoughts: Estee Lauder Signature 5 tone Shimmer Powder – 01 Pink Shimmer

Normally I am a peachy colour blusher kind of girl but after seeing this on my face I was convinced that a bit of pink is no bad thing! This is such a young, fresh medium pink that will suit fair and medium skin. This has a gorgeous sheen to it and brightens the complexion for a fresher, younger look.

I also love the fact that this is actually a ‘shimmer powder’ you could use the colours seperately if you want to on yours eyes too… and the packaging is yummy!

Initial thoughts: Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara – 01 Extreme Black

I like to try different mascaras, normally however I stick to the cheaper brands like Maybelline and L’oreal because I honestly believe they make the best ones.

However, the lovely Estee Lauder lady, Jodie, used this on me and I loved it. Its just a really lovely deep black, doesn’t look clumpy and I like wand on it.

Initial thoughts: Estee Lauder Pure Colour Lipstick – 01 Crystal Baby

I love this colour, it’s a soft neatral peachy pink, almost like a ‘my lips but better’ shade with a subtle sheen. Very wearable and will suit most skin tones.

The foundation I bought that you can see in the first picture I will be doing a full review on so will not feature in this initial thoughts type post. It deserves its very own post!
