Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream (unscented) – I finally get the hype

photo

What is it?

This product is marketed as a skin protectant balm and has many, many uses.

The Review:

I have to admit, I have previously owned the scented version of this product as I was given it after a catwalk show and apart from using it a couple of times as lip balm, I just didn’t get the hype. It smells funny, it’s thick and I just didn’t understand the product.

A couple of years later, a photoshoot/travelling marathon in London, Italy and then Paris left me with dry cracked sore lips, worse than I have ever experienced. I had redness all around my mouth, I couldn’t open my mouth properly for fear of re-splitting the sides and nothing was helping. After googling furiously about what to do to help, the 8 Hour Cream by Elizabeth Arden kept cropping up again and again. Having exhausted all products from Carmex and Blistex (even the medicated stuff) I rummaged through my drawers and found a tub of the unscented version that I had picked up in a Boots sale for under £10 and smothered the area in it.

After 24hrs of reapplication I was stunned. The redness was almost gone, my lips were less sore, smoother and the splits at the sides had almost completely cleared. Now, I really get this product, I cannot live without it.

I have since started using it for numerous other things such as:

Smoothing the ends of my hair

As an intense hydrating mask when my skin is really dry

For soothing sunburn

For rough dry hands

Helping heal small cuts

Holding eyebrows in place

A glossy finish on the eyes

Giving the skin a healthy glow by placing on the tops of cheekbones

The list goes on and on and on. The only downside I can think of is maybe the price, it’s fairly expensive stuff but as shown above, can be used for lots of different things. The smell isn’t great but an unscented version is now available and this product lasts a long time as so little is needed for each use.

Worth the Money?

This will set you back around the £15 mark for 30ml depending on where you buy it but places such as ‘Fragrance Direct’ and ‘Cheap Smells’ often carry this product as a discount. Amazon is also a good one to check out but beware of the cost of the post and packaging as this can cancel out the discount sometimes!

This product is a multitasker and now I finally see why it is so loved by so many. A true gem and totally owrth the money AND the hype. Thoroughly recommend. The unscented version is available at Feelunique.com – the link for 30ml for under £15 is below 🙂

The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask

tea-tree-face-mask_l

What is it?

A pale green tea tree face mask with a thick consistency that is suitable for blemished skin. It claims to be a deep cleansing mask that helps fight blemishes and reduce dirt and oil on the skin.

The Review:

This mask has a creamy thick consistency and is a pale green colour. It comes in a tub rather than a squeezy tube which can be troublesome as we all know that tubs of products can mean a less hygienic product. Other than the packaging though, this product is lovely.

The smell is fresh, clean and as you would expect, this mask overall, is tea tree scented.

The mask glides on in a smooth layer when applied to the skin and does give a slight cooling and tingling sensation, something that I like as it makes me feel like it’s doing something.

I left it on for about 12 minutes and although I felt it get slightly harder, I still didn’t feel it get uncomfortably tight on my face like many other deep cleansing masks. It was also fairly easy to remove and came away nicely with some warm water and a muslin cloth. I generally find masks easier to remove by using a cloth.

Once I’d finished patting my skin dry I noticed my face looked both cleaner, brighter and oil free. Any redness on recent blemishes was also slightly diminished and after  a few weeks of using this I found my skin was overall less oily.

Worth the money?

The mask will set you back £10 and last you a long time. If you have oily or acne prone skin, this product is absolutely worth every penny. Tea tree soothes and cools whilst improving the appearance of and helping to prevent break out.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask is available from their shops or via their online website:

The Body Shop – Haul and Initial Thoughts

What I Purchased:

FYI:

If you’re a Body Shop fan like me then I strongly suggest you go and get a members card if you haven’t already. This entitles you too free gifts every now then, a birthday gift and lots of discounts. It’s very easy to get one, just head to your nearest shop and ask, takes less than 5mins! This little haul would have been fairly expensive but I saved a packet because of my members card so I have listed the full prices below but certainly didn’t pay the full amount 🙂

The Body Shop is also always a great one for deals, they often have a huge selection of different products in varying sizes in there ‘3 for £20’ section on their website.

Madagascan Vanilla Flower Shower Gel: £8

Tea Tree Face Mask: £9

Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream: £4

Sweet Lemon Lip Butter: £4

All-in-One BB Cream: £12

Green Tea and Lemon Scented Candle: £10

Madagascan Vanilla Flower Show Gel:

Gorgeous musky vanilla smell, not too sweet and lathers beautifully. This scent just feels really indulgent.

Tea Tree Face Mask:

I already use the tea tree mattifying moisturiser from this range so I thought I’d give the mask a go. This has a thick creamy consistency and is a pale green colour, it feels cool and tingly on the skin but not uncomfortable and is perfect for problematic skin as tea tree is a great spot treatment. Even if you have fairly good skin this is a good preventative measure.

Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

I actually got this for free, if you spent over a certain amount you got a free gift. I have used it a couple of times under my make up as just like my usual tea tree moisturiser it’s great for day time because its mattifying so its perfect if you have oily skin.

Sweet Lemon Lip Butter:

I love The Body Shop’s wide range of lip balms and butters, there’s definitely something for everyone and these screw top ones last aaaages! I got the sweet lemon scent and it tastes like it smells – yummy. I’m not a huge fan of mint lip balms or butters but this deliciously fruity one is lovely and the packaging is cute too!

All-in-One BB Cream

Just like the L’oreal BB cream, this comes out white and blends to a skin colour as applied. I’ve only worn it once and thought it was very nice, the only thing is that I would say even the lightest shade is fairly dark for a supposedly light shade. It’s also very warm so this isn’t great if you have very fair skin. For the moment I have a bit of a tan so the colour is good but unless they bring out more shades this will be a ‘when I have a tan’ only product. I will be trying this out more and doing a full review in a few weeks.

Green Tea and Lemon Scented Candle

I love candles and prefer fresh fruity scents rather than super sweet ones. This green tea and lemon one is gorgeous, the packaging is beautiful and I will definitely be checking out the other scents available from The Body Shop.

Liz Earle Deep Cleansing Mask

75ml tube starter kit

What is it?

A deep cleansing clay mask containing anti bacterial Manuka honey.

The Review

The texture of this mask is fairly smooth and thin, it feels cold on the skin and dries like most clay masks.

Since I’ve been using this mask I’ve noticed a real difference in my skin, just as most teens do, I suffer from occasional breakouts in my t-zone and since using this twice a week I’ve noticed this hardly ever happens anymore yay!

The mask doesn’t feel horribly tight on the face when it dries and washes off easily with the sponge in the starter kit (the kit comes with 2) leaving my skin smooth and fresh looking. The joy with this particular mask is that unlike a lot of the clay masks I’ve tried, it really does the job without drying out the skin which is amazing!

Worth the Money?

I thoroughly recommend getting the starter kit which comes with 2 sponges and 75ml of product for £14. I’ve been using this twice a week for about 2 1/2 months now and haven’t finished half the tube yet. For the results I’ve experienced and the fact that all the ingredients are natural, Liz Earle has done it again, definitely worth the money!

This product is available from some department stores and the official Liz Earle website: http://uk.lizearle.com/exfoliators-and-masks.html

Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask

Ok, so I will admit I have gone a bit crazy over Liz Earle products but as  full time model, my skin absolutely has to be in good condition and this is one of the many amazing products that I just can’t live without.

What is it?

This is a creamy brightening mask made from all natural ingredients that instantly brightens dull, tired skin.

The Review

On application this is a creamy white mask with a similar consistancy to the Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser with a pleasant and by no means overpowering scent. The mask does tingle a bit but I like it because this way I feel like it’s definitely doing something – and boy am I right!

I left it on for 5 minutes and promptly washed it off with a dampened muslin cloth (the kit comes with this) to reveal a beautifully fresh looking new me.

It left my skin soft and fresh faced and definitely gave me a glow. This mask is perfect for perking skin up in the morning or even as a quick ‘skin hangover’ fix after a night out.

Worth the Money?

It’s got to be a yes really hasn’t it?! Just £14.25 will buy you the starter kit which comes with a muslin cloth and a 50ml pump bottle of this amazing stuff.

Obviously though there are various other sizes and also tubes available if you prefer this to a pump. Brilliant!

As with all Liz Earle products, this is available from some department stores or the website : http://uk.lizearle.com/

I Love You Liz Earle

The Company

Liz Earle prides itself on using natural ingredients harvested in a sustainable way and never tests on animals. It is also a British company 🙂

My Experience

A make up artist recommended I try Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser as I had mentioned to her that I use Lancome cleansing milk and toner (which is rather expensive).

After having it confirmed that she uses it herself (and had amazing skin!) I ventured on to the website which I found very user friendly and easy to navigate. There is lots of information on which products are best for which skin type and the site is brilliant if you are new to a proper skincare regime and are unsure of which products to go for.

Each product has several different size options in the drop down box to choose from before adding it to your basket. These ranged from a year subscription or multi buy packs to starter kits and tester size versions of each product which I thought was brilliant.

The first order I placed I thought I may as well try out some other products from the line. The products I ordered are as below:

  • Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter kit at £14.95 which comes with 100ml of cleanser in a plastic bottle with pump and 2 muslin cloths
  • Gentle Face Exfoliator at £13.50 for 70ml
  • Deep Cleansing Mask Starter Kit at £14.00 which comes with 2 sponges

I chose the standard delivery option for £3.00 and my order arrived in about 3 days, far quicker than expected and everything was beautifully packaged in tissue paper with a pale blue sticker instead of tape.

Inside my box was also a Product Guide, a letter welcoming me to membership on the website and a hand signed thank you note for my order, so far I was very impressed!

Even better than this, I was also sent a free 50ml sample of the Instant Boost Skin Tonic (a lovely, gentle floral toner) which was so exciting!

The Products

I was so impressed with the products and service I received that I went ahead and made a second and then a third order … I have gone a little Liz Earle crazy but these are gentle, effective products that really do what they say on the bottle.
