Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream (unscented) – I finally get the hype

photo

What is it?

This product is marketed as a skin protectant balm and has many, many uses.

The Review:

I have to admit, I have previously owned the scented version of this product as I was given it after a catwalk show and apart from using it a couple of times as lip balm, I just didn’t get the hype. It smells funny, it’s thick and I just didn’t understand the product.

A couple of years later, a photoshoot/travelling marathon in London, Italy and then Paris left me with dry cracked sore lips, worse than I have ever experienced. I had redness all around my mouth, I couldn’t open my mouth properly for fear of re-splitting the sides and nothing was helping. After googling furiously about what to do to help, the 8 Hour Cream by Elizabeth Arden kept cropping up again and again. Having exhausted all products from Carmex and Blistex (even the medicated stuff) I rummaged through my drawers and found a tub of the unscented version that I had picked up in a Boots sale for under £10 and smothered the area in it.

After 24hrs of reapplication I was stunned. The redness was almost gone, my lips were less sore, smoother and the splits at the sides had almost completely cleared. Now, I really get this product, I cannot live without it.

I have since started using it for numerous other things such as:

Smoothing the ends of my hair

As an intense hydrating mask when my skin is really dry

For soothing sunburn

For rough dry hands

Helping heal small cuts

Holding eyebrows in place

A glossy finish on the eyes

Giving the skin a healthy glow by placing on the tops of cheekbones

The list goes on and on and on. The only downside I can think of is maybe the price, it’s fairly expensive stuff but as shown above, can be used for lots of different things. The smell isn’t great but an unscented version is now available and this product lasts a long time as so little is needed for each use.

Worth the Money?

This will set you back around the £15 mark for 30ml depending on where you buy it but places such as ‘Fragrance Direct’ and ‘Cheap Smells’ often carry this product as a discount. Amazon is also a good one to check out but beware of the cost of the post and packaging as this can cancel out the discount sometimes!

This product is a multitasker and now I finally see why it is so loved by so many. A true gem and totally owrth the money AND the hype. Thoroughly recommend. The unscented version is available at Feelunique.com – the link for 30ml for under £15 is below 🙂

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers

What are they?

Longer lasting sort of ‘liquid lipsticks’… Gorgeous.

The Review:

There are 8 shades in the collection ranging from nude to bright vivid red. There is definitely something for everyone and there are some great wearable every days pinks too. The packaging is lovely and you can see the product in the tube which is fantastic!

Application is a dream with a doe foot like applicator with a twist – the product collects in a little hollow in the applicator (see the above picture). Genius! You can use the colour straight like that for the full on gorgeously pigmented colour or wipe it off a little for a more natural colour. They apply with a gloss like shine and then settle to a subtle sheen.

The pigmentation is beautiful, colour range is fantastic and the the product is long lasting – perfect for night out, especially as the colours don’t bleed at all. An added bonus is that they are so comfortable to wear, they don’t dry my lips out like some other long lasting lippies I’ve tried. Can’t fault them!

Favourite Natural lip combo

Intro:

So, I have been on the hunt for a relatively cheap nude/natural lipstick for every day that will go with anything. As you all know i’m sure, it can be rather tricky to find one that fits that description that doesn’t make you look a bit dead. Finally, however, I have found it!

Trusty L’Oreal released a range of Color Riche lipsticks for individual hair colours, this lovely nudey/natural/soft pink shade just so happens to be meant for blondes (which i am not) but who cares! It’s the perfect nude, natural every day colour that many of us have been searching for so I thought I would share it with you all 🙂

As a bonus, you’ll be delighted to know I also found a lip liner pencil that is also nearly an exact match colour wise to go with it yay!

Here are some piccies and the colour names/numbers and prices for you :

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Lipstick in shade: 235 Natural Blondes Nude

£8.19 from Boots, also available at Superdrug and larger chain supermarkets with a make up section.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Liner in shade: 132 Sweet Pink

£3.99 from Boots, also available at Superdrug and larger chain supermarkets with a make up section.

The Body Shop – Haul and Initial Thoughts

What I Purchased:

FYI:

If you’re a Body Shop fan like me then I strongly suggest you go and get a members card if you haven’t already. This entitles you too free gifts every now then, a birthday gift and lots of discounts. It’s very easy to get one, just head to your nearest shop and ask, takes less than 5mins! This little haul would have been fairly expensive but I saved a packet because of my members card so I have listed the full prices below but certainly didn’t pay the full amount 🙂

The Body Shop is also always a great one for deals, they often have a huge selection of different products in varying sizes in there ‘3 for £20’ section on their website.

Madagascan Vanilla Flower Shower Gel: £8

Tea Tree Face Mask: £9

Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream: £4

Sweet Lemon Lip Butter: £4

All-in-One BB Cream: £12

Green Tea and Lemon Scented Candle: £10

Madagascan Vanilla Flower Show Gel:

Gorgeous musky vanilla smell, not too sweet and lathers beautifully. This scent just feels really indulgent.

Tea Tree Face Mask:

I already use the tea tree mattifying moisturiser from this range so I thought I’d give the mask a go. This has a thick creamy consistency and is a pale green colour, it feels cool and tingly on the skin but not uncomfortable and is perfect for problematic skin as tea tree is a great spot treatment. Even if you have fairly good skin this is a good preventative measure.

Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream:

I actually got this for free, if you spent over a certain amount you got a free gift. I have used it a couple of times under my make up as just like my usual tea tree moisturiser it’s great for day time because its mattifying so its perfect if you have oily skin.

Sweet Lemon Lip Butter:

I love The Body Shop’s wide range of lip balms and butters, there’s definitely something for everyone and these screw top ones last aaaages! I got the sweet lemon scent and it tastes like it smells – yummy. I’m not a huge fan of mint lip balms or butters but this deliciously fruity one is lovely and the packaging is cute too!

All-in-One BB Cream

Just like the L’oreal BB cream, this comes out white and blends to a skin colour as applied. I’ve only worn it once and thought it was very nice, the only thing is that I would say even the lightest shade is fairly dark for a supposedly light shade. It’s also very warm so this isn’t great if you have very fair skin. For the moment I have a bit of a tan so the colour is good but unless they bring out more shades this will be a ‘when I have a tan’ only product. I will be trying this out more and doing a full review in a few weeks.

Green Tea and Lemon Scented Candle

I love candles and prefer fresh fruity scents rather than super sweet ones. This green tea and lemon one is gorgeous, the packaging is beautiful and I will definitely be checking out the other scents available from The Body Shop.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains

What are they?

Moisturising ‘balms’ with buildable colour.

Thoughts?

I only have one shade (as pictured) in ‘Honey’ which is a natural pink but I am already in love with these and desperate to get my hands on some of the other colours – there’s definitely something for everyone.

The staying power – as to be expected – is about 3/4 hours but then these bad boys don’t claim to be long lasting and are pretty moisturising so perfect if you like some colour but find normal lipsticks too drying or uncomfortable to wear.

These have a slight peppermint smell but I feel like it wears off pretty quickly and isn’t overpowering, just very pleasant.

I’ve also found that although the colour goes on initially fairly sheer, you can easily build the colour up and I am one of those people that likes to have that option.

These balm stains aren’t super shiny or glittery, they just give your lips a plump, healthy sheen and I love the fact that you don’t sharpen them. You twist the bottom and more product comes up, just like a regular lipstick.

I tried the Clinique Chubby Sticks and I feel like this is Revlon’s version and frankly, although I adore the Chubby Sticks, these are equally as good, if not better AND a fraction of the price.

Where can I buy?

They retail for £7.99 normally HOWEVER, I got mine in Boots and right now they are only £5.99!

You can get your hands on these lovelies at larger supermarkets, Boots, Superdrug and as always, the Revlon website:

Product of the Month – April

I am absolutely loving this particular Lip Butter from Revlon, these were a HUGE hit in the states where they were first released and us Brits can get our hands on them too!

Peach Parfait is such a gorgeous peachy pink colour with a bit of shimmer for that extra plumping effect. This colour is my absolute favourite right now as it brightens up my every day look while still looking fresh and natural. Perfect for spring and summer and perfect for those of you who find that lipsticks can be a little drying on the lips.

These lip butters are all AMAZING and come in a variety of shades and finishes so there is something for everyone.

Full review and swatches of more colours from this range on its way – watch this space!

GOSH Soft n’ Shine Lip Balms

Antique Gold, Mocha, Soft Touch, Perfect Plum, Passion Pink, Kiss

What are they?

Pigmented lip balms in an array of gorgeous colours.

The Review

These feel smooth and moisturising on the lips and were so pigmented! There is a good selection of colours ranging from neutral to bright red and they are all so pretty.

I decided to pick up 7 of the colours, however I only have 6 to show you as I gave the coral one ‘Irony’ to my mumma 🙂

Normally I wouldn’t splash out the full amount of money on these so I was lucky that I got them for £3 each from Superdrug in the clearance section – bargain!

The colours I have are Antique Gold, Mocha, Soft Touch, Perfect Plum, Passion Pink and Kiss.

Here they are swatched below in the above order:

Worth the Money?

I believe these retail for £7.34 so are quite pricey for something that claims to be a lip balm – however – these are definitely similar to the Revlon Lip Butters that everyone seems to be raving about (and with good reason!).

If you want a treat for your lips but can’t go without a bit of colour then these are worth the investment. As I mentioned earlier, I got mine for £3 each but would still purchase other colours full price.

These lovely lippies are available from Superdrug and online
