Alpha H Liquid Gold – Skin Saviour

alpha h liquid gold

What is it?

This is basically a chemical exfoliator, it contains Glycolic Acid which breaks down the dead skin cells and as a result it leaves your skin looking amazing! It smoothes, firms and freshens the skin whilst helping with break outs too – yay!

The Review:

My skin looks so much healthier and happier the day after I use it and it really is an overnight transformation.

I tend to use this two or three times a week, I put a small amount on a cotton pad and apply it before I go to bed after removing makeup and washing my face.

You can also wait for it to dry on your face and use your moisturiser as normal for a gentler treatment, however I prefer to really go for it and skip my moisturiser on days I use this.

I’ve noticed a HUGE difference in the overall quality of my skin. Break outs are few and far between, my skin is less dull and more glowy.  I feel it has dramatically reduced the number of breakouts  I get as well as speeding up the time it takes for any small active break outs to heal.

Worth the Money?

The price of this product varies depending on where you buy it, I bought mine for £42 plus postage from amazon for 200ml so shopping around a little is a good idea.

I think it’s a fair price for a large quantity of product that is going to last a very long time. You can get just 100ml of product for around the £30 mark and I realise that’s not cheap either.

However, if you have dull, lifeless skin or very problematic skin this stuff is amazing! Bearing in my mind my skin is pretty good, I still feel it’s makes a massive difference and the only way to really understand it is to see for yourself!

I got mine from Amazon, so here is a link to 100ml :

Lookfantastic also have 200ml for £44.95 – much better value!

The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask

tea-tree-face-mask_l

What is it?

A pale green tea tree face mask with a thick consistency that is suitable for blemished skin. It claims to be a deep cleansing mask that helps fight blemishes and reduce dirt and oil on the skin.

The Review:

This mask has a creamy thick consistency and is a pale green colour. It comes in a tub rather than a squeezy tube which can be troublesome as we all know that tubs of products can mean a less hygienic product. Other than the packaging though, this product is lovely.

The smell is fresh, clean and as you would expect, this mask overall, is tea tree scented.

The mask glides on in a smooth layer when applied to the skin and does give a slight cooling and tingling sensation, something that I like as it makes me feel like it’s doing something.

I left it on for about 12 minutes and although I felt it get slightly harder, I still didn’t feel it get uncomfortably tight on my face like many other deep cleansing masks. It was also fairly easy to remove and came away nicely with some warm water and a muslin cloth. I generally find masks easier to remove by using a cloth.

Once I’d finished patting my skin dry I noticed my face looked both cleaner, brighter and oil free. Any redness on recent blemishes was also slightly diminished and after  a few weeks of using this I found my skin was overall less oily.

Worth the money?

The mask will set you back £10 and last you a long time. If you have oily or acne prone skin, this product is absolutely worth every penny. Tea tree soothes and cools whilst improving the appearance of and helping to prevent break out.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask is available from their shops or via their online website:

Clarisonic Mia – FULL REVIEW

What is it?

A deep cleansing skin brush that cleans deep into pores. I have the lavender one, however, other colours are available.

Initial thoughts?

I use this as instructed by the booklet that comes with it, it does come with the clarisonic cleanser but I prefer to stick to my lovely Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish as i know that this works for my skin.

I first remove my make up with a combination of a wipe and eye make up remover, or Bioderma and some cotton pads. This is IMPORTANT – the clarisonic mia (and the other clarisonics) are for CLEANSING the skin and are not designed for removing make up. Other than that, I’m sure no one wants a discoloured brush head if they can help it!

After removing my make up I then apply my cleanser to my face evenly, wet the brush head, turn it on and move the clarison mia over my skin gently in circular motions. It will turn itself off after 1 minute.

You are advised to use the brush for 20 seconds on your nose and chin area, 20 seconds on your forehead and 10 seconds on each cheek.

The Clarisonic  Mia is hassle free and easy to use and I love the fact it’s travel friendly because its small and the charger is small too – no big cradle like its bigger counterparts!

The Results?

I have been using this for about 10 weeks now and I have to say I have seen a huge improvement in how my skin looks and feels. I first used the ‘sensitive’ brush head that comes with the Clarisonic Mia when you purchase it and this seemed to work for my skin, however, I did some research and others have found that switching to the ‘normal’ brush head have resulted in even bigger improvements to the skin.

After discovering this, as my skin isn’t super sensitive I bought the ‘normal’ brush head about 3 weeks in and boy did it make a difference!

Having said this, I thoroughly recommend that if you do purchase this item as I did, you use the ‘sensitive’ brush head for a couple of weeks first as your skin may well respond very well to it. Other than this, the ‘sensitive’ brush head is gentler and is ideal for getting your skin adapted to being cleansed in this way.

My skin is clearer, brighter and softer and just generally looks far more healthy. I think this product is perfect for anyone  who loves a deep cleanse and wants to look after their skin or for those of us with more problematic skin as this product really does cleanse beautifully without irritation or redness.

Worth the Money?

I’m not going to lie to you, this is not cheap – it costs £120 … BUT … If your skin is something that makes you feel insecure because you have problems with it then I firmly believe it’s worth every penny.

Even if your skin is ok but you constantly wear a lot of make up and need a thorough clean or you like to really take care of your skin this is ideal.

If you can’t afford it why not chuck it on your birthday/christmas list? That’s what I did 😉

The Body Shop – Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion

What is it?

A light moisturiser infused with tea oil to hydrate the skin whilst helping to control and prevent blemishes.

Worth the Money?

I got on with this moisturiser very well and am actually on my second tube.

Now, this has in no way replaced my Liz Earle oily/combination skin moisturiser as I use this at night time as its richer. This moisturiser has become my favourite to use under make up, or even just as my morning moisturiser if I’m not wearing any.

Everyone knows a good base makes a difference to how make up will sit on your face and for me, although I don’t suffer with full on acne and generally have pretty good skin, I am prone to small breakouts in my T-zone where I get oily.

I expect that this is also due to the line of work I’m in as if I’m shooting you can guarantee I will have heavy make up on and we all know that constantly wearing a lot of make up can have a negative effect on the skin.

This moisturiser isn’t particularly thick or particularly runny, although a little goes surprisingly far. The smell is somewhere inbetween tea tree and fresh grass but I don’t feel it’s overpowering and it certainly didn’t put me off. Let’s face it, if you’ve purchased a product with tea tree in it then it’s going to smell like it!

This moisturiser is ideally suited to normal, combination or oily skin as it has mattifying properties and is therefore not suitable for dry skin.

It applies smoothly and evenly and feels lovely and fresh on the skin leaving me sufficiently moisturised but not greasy or shiny – ideal for going under make up, especially if you’re prone to getting oily throughout the day.

As for the ‘clearing’ bit, this is by no means a miracle product but I have seen a noticeable improvement in my skin and in the number of breakouts I suffer so for me this is something I will continue to repurchase.

If you have similar skin to mine and just need something for oil control and a bit of preventative action then this is great and will help, if you have more problematic skin then The Body Shop do a whole Tea Tree range of products that I have heard great things about. Tea tree has always been known for its positive effects on problematic skin and I have personally always found that things that work on spots for me always contain it in some form.

Where can I get it?

This product is available from The Body Shop and online stores and retails for £7 for 50ml or £3 for 15ml:
