Backcombing Giving You a Headache? I Present the Denman Teasing Comb :)

teasing comb

What is it?

A comb specifically for ‘teasing’ the hair (generally at the roots) to add volume.

The Review

What is not to like? If you have ever tried to tease your hair with anything but a teasing comb, you will know that it hurts, it’s messy and generally really not a very good idea …

This comb, however, allows you to tease gently whilst achieving lots of volume (depending on how much you tease your hair of course). You can achieve varying levels of volume with ease and it’s gentler on your head and hair than trying to use a normal comb.

The handle is a nice width and the pointed end allow your to section your hair in a straight line simply by wiggling the pointed end in the direction you want to part it. Easy peasy! No pain, no tugging and these combs are under £5.

I don’t tease my hair very often but this is a joy to use if I’m having a flat day or want a a bigger up do.

Quick Rave – Liz Earle Hair Products – Full Review coming soon!

haircare

Quick intro:

I’ve been using the Botanical Shine Shampoo (for all hair types) and the Botanical Shine Conditioner for oily hair for a little while now. I don’t have oily hair but I made a large order and got a full size of the product free of charge and as it’s so yummy, am working on using it all up before purchasing the one for either normal or damaged hair as I use a lot of heat on mine.

The shampoo is great as instead of using SLS and SLES, which are foaming agents present in most well-known hair cleansing products, they use a cleansing agent that comes from coconut yay! Many scalps are sensitive to SLS and SLES and this coconut and plant-based shampoo is suitable for all scalp and hair types. It’s even safe for coloured hair due to the lack of SLS and SLES as these can be harsh and are known to fade colour.

Initial Thoughts:

I am already a HUGE fan of Liz Earle and as you all know by now, the majority of the skincare products I use are from the brand so I was super excited to try the hair care goodies.

The shampoo is unlike the usual ‘better for you’ kind of shampoos as it lathers beautifully, smells deliciously natural and good for you BUT actually effectively cleans your hair. It. Is. Amazing.

The conditioner, despite not necessarily for my hair type as I got it free with a rather large order is also amazing! It smells yummy, leaves my hair super soft and shiny and doesn’t weigh it down either. Top Marks Liz Earle, as usual!

Tresemme Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Spray

What is it?

A heat protection spray infused with keratin that claims to protect from heat styling, make hair sleeker, shinier and more manageable without weighing down the hair.

The Review

To be completely honest, I’m not going to string this out as there’s not much to say really! This does exactly what it says it does on the bottle.

The spray bottle is lovely and this stuff comes out in a beautiful fine mist. It smells lovely, doesn’t weigh my hair down, doesn’t leave it sticky in any way and makes my hair feel super soft.

A beautiful smooth and shiny finish even if only used when blow drying – perfect!

Worth the Money?

This can be purchased from Boots or Superdrug or even larger chain supermarkets (as usual) for the very reasonable price of £5.99. I love this and will be repurchasing it full price, HOWEVER, Superdrug has it for only £2.95 at the moment so I suggest you all go and grab some while it lasts! Even at full price though, this product is fantastic.

This product is part of a range so if you fancy giving the treatment mask or shampoo or conditioner a go then leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts! I have been using the shampoo as well and I really like it 🙂

L’oreal Triple Resist Range – Hair saviours!

What is it?

A range of hair products containing Arganine – an essential amino acid vital to the hair fibre.

L’oreal says: ” You put your hair through daily torture and sometimes it can lack essential nourishment. Weakened, your hair has a tendency to break and fall out. Introducing new Elvive Triple Resist range enriched in ARGININE + PROTEIN. The formula provides a triple action: reinforced, nourished from root to tip and stronger. ”

The range has a shampoo, conditioner, 60 second treatment masque and a ‘reinforcing treatment’ in the form of a root spray.

The Review:

I ran out of the shampoo and conditioner I was using and decided I would just buy the whole set of products from this range … I figure this was justifiable as to get the maximum benefits, like most brands say, you should probably use the whole set of products in conjunctions with each other… also J-Lo looking super hot in the ads was perhaps also a contributing factor …

Just as a side note, I am not particularly into super expensive shampoo and conditioners, I would prefer to spend more money on hair treatments and oils and tend to buy shampoo and conditioners that are readily available in Boots or Superdrug.

I’ve been using these lovelies for about 3 weeks now and I’m loving them!

The whole range smells yummy but it’s not overpowering. The shampoo lathers up nicely and feels like it gives my hair a really good clean without making it dry or weighing it down.

The conditioner left my hair ridiculously smooth, shiny and manageable, again, without weighing down my hair.

The 60 second treatment leaves my hair even shinier and lovely and smooth. It also made my ends look dramatically better and i love the fact that it’s such a quick treatment. For an extra treat I have wrapped my hair in clingfilm and left it on for half an hour a couple of times, also with great results.

The reinforcing treatment was a weird concept to me at first, you can use it on wet or dry hair and spritz it into your roots. You then massage it into your scalp and can use it up to 2 times a day. I have been using it on towel – dried hair and noticed that my hair has been feeling healthier, although I can’t say I’ve noticed anything  else.

I did read a few reviews on this range prior to purchase and a couple of people said that there was an issue of these products leaving residue, making their hair look dirty and one person who had used the root spray said it had made their scalp sore.

I have had none of these issues but would suggest making sure you wash out the conditioner and masque properly and go easy on the treatment spray!

Worth the Money?

I really like this range and will be repurchasing it. If you have fragile hair then this will be great for you and when the prices are so reasonable and the products readily available on the highstreet or supermarkets I don’t think you can really go wrong. They come if quite big sizes too so they are definitely gonna last fairly long time.

The shampoo and conditioner are £3.99 each, the masque is £4.99 and the reinforcing treament (root spray) is also around the £5 mark – I couldn’t find a definitive price for you! It is generally much cheaper to shop around a bit as different shops have different prices on these items.

These products can be purchased from Boots, Superdrug, larger chain supermarkets and the L’oreal Paris website:

Moroccan Oil

What is it?

‘A unique ultra-light formula rich in antioxidant argan oil that instantly absorbs into hair to immediately enhance manageability, shine and deliver long term conditioning without leaving residue.’

The Review

I cannot fault this product on anything but the packaging – which is glass and therefore impractical for travelling. It does however come with a screw top lid AND a pump which is great.

The product itself does exactly what the bottle says, its absorbs immediately and leaves my hair moisturised, shiny and soft.

I wash and condition my hair as normal then towel dry it gently before squirting 3 pumps in my palm. I then rub my palms together and run them through the mid section to ends of my hair. I then use my Tangle Teaser to brush through my hair and leave to dry naturally.

If the ends look a little dry after it’s dry I will use another half pump just on the ends.

This product has honestly been a complete miracle worker. My hair has been bleached, highlighted and dyed very dark then lifted to my natural colour again. It is also consistantly abused by straighteners, curling tongs, heated rollers and the dreaded backcombing brush which unfortunately cannot really be avoided in my line of work.

Moroccan Oil is something I just can’t live without and is perfect if your hair is dry or damaged and needs some extra love.

Worth the Money?

I bought mine for £30.45 from my local salon and bearing in mind I use it every day, it lasted me just over 2 months and for the results I get it’s worth every penny!

This product is available from most good salons and a host of websites including the official Moroccan Oil site :
